BLOG

Happy Birthday

Happy 3rd birthday, Jose Lin! Yesterday we celebrated you! I hope one day you get to read this blog post and know just how special you are to our family.

I'll never forget the day that I went in for my first pregnancy appointment. When the OB came in to confirm that I was pregnant and told me the due date I almost fell off the exam table. "Your babies due on July 17th," she said. To most, that is just another date, but to me, it's my father's birth date.

There's a lot that my dad physically missed out on since the day he unexpectedly passed but I always knew he was there for my wedding day and especially knew he would be forever a part of our first child's everything.

I went into labor on July 2nd, the date that we had to say goodbye to my dad. It rained on the day that my dad passed and to no surprise, it rained on the day that our little man arrived on July 3rd. I know that everyone's own child is very special, but my son, he truly is a gift from above who will forever have a special angel watching down on him. And, it's really crazy how Jose's personality is identical to my dad's personality and talents - funny, temperamental (ha), loving, pulls apart every toy to put them back together (my dad always loved fixing broken things), sings all day everyday (my dad was a choir singer) and my favorite of them all - they are both very kind hearted.

I can't wait to see who you become, Jose and what kind things you do in this world. I pray you continue to spread your love! P.S. You're an amazing big brother!

Sharing a few of my favorite photos of my sweet little boy throughout his three years.

Worth Family Session

This family is pure perfection! I met them when I first moved to Cincinnati and have always loved every session with this easy going family and their perfect toddler boy. And YES, the perfect toddler really does exist! Then a new sassy addition arrived! Sharing some of my favorites from their session.

P.S. How cute are the parents!

Worth family, you are a gem to photograph!

Outdoor Play

Spring has taken its time this year to show up and we've been patiently waiting for some beautiful weather. Rain or shine or snow (a lot of snow this year), I try to take the little man outside for outdoor play so he can release all that energy. Plus, I try to avoid screen time if at all possible because he's starting to ask for it way too much and whine, which the whining is one thing I just cannot deal with!!

I discovered Free Forest School and it has been a great way to meet other moms since moving to a new state and letting the little man play with kids of all ages. They run, they jump, they splash, they get dirty, they find sticks and most of the time they get along. But the best of all, they're all outdoors and releasing all that energy. It never fails, a good nap follows after our outdoor adventure. If there isn't already a Free Forest School in your area, it's easy to start one on your own. Here is the link for more information.

Get outdoors and soak in all the vitamin D!

Freshly New

Who doesn't love the smell of a fresh new baby?!

Newborn sessions are my longest and one of the most expensive sessions and for good reason. You can never predict how the baby will be that day and in-between feedings, posing and setting up, it takes a lot of time and patience to successfully pull off a newborn session. When booking your newborn session (I know everyone has a budget), please, for the sake of the safety of your newborn, book someone with experience with babies. I promise you are in good hands when working with me, so, thank you to my clients who have trusted me to freeze these freshly new moments!

Sharing some of my faves from recent newborn sessions.

Amy Lozy Beauty + Fashion

Confession...I follow a few bloggers that help me shop for my wardrobe. Without them I think I would be in yoga clothes every day. I am always excited when bloggers reach out asking to photograph their looks especially when shoots take me back home to NC. Here are just a few of my favorites from my shoot with Amy Lozy. Seriously, do bloggers always look this pretty and do they look this good everyday?!!

Smash Cake

I'm heading back to NC this weekend and I CAN. NOT. WAIT!!! I can't wait to squeeze all my babies I've been lucky to photograph every year, I can't wait to catch up with some of my best girlfriends and I can't wait to just be back home.

In honor of heading back home this weekend I wanted to share this chubby cheek, one year olds smash cake session. I can't wait to see how much he's grown and I can't wait to meet his new little brother. And can I just say, his momma sure is the sweetest. I love when clients turn into texting friends. I have THE BEST job!

Jen High School Senior Shoot

High school senior shoots are one of my all time favorites to shoot! Every year I swear the rising seniors I get to photograph get more and more gorgeous. I can still remember my high school photos and laugh bc seriously what was I wearing and what was I thinking?!!! I'm not sure if social media has helped seniors look more like models these days bc of so many beauty and fashion influences and tutorials available but Jen was such a natural in front of the camera and the camera loved her!

Schmidt Family

Extended family sessions can be tricky because not everyone typically wants to take photos as a family or understands the importance of freezing time as a family. But the Schmidt family were extremely patient with me while I waited at times for the sun to go down in the perfect open field and never once did I hear a complaint about the extreme heat - it was a hot day! Then you add their precious 9 month old twins, adorable grandparents, hilarious sisters and you end up with the perfect family to photograph!

North Carolina

I miss you, NC! I was beyond excited and thrilled to be back in my home state and meet with old clients. There is nothing like being able to photograph families who you've had the privilege to photograph every year and watch their children grow up! How did they get so big, so fast?! I've missed a lot since we've moved in October. Some of my go-to locations had some major changes. NoDa, what happened to some of your colorful walls?! But I also had some time in between a few sessions and stumped upon a new awesome location that had the perfect light and last minute was able to switch locations on one of my clients - it was worth it!! I'll be back soon, NC! It was seriously so good to see everyone I was able to photograph on this last minute trip. Stay tuned, I'm trying to book another trip back the first weekend in June. Here are just a few of my favorites from my trip.

Portaro Siblings

I can't even begin to tell you how beautiful these kids are. They were dressed to perfection and were so much fun to photograph. The lighting was amazing, the background was extremely green and the kids were so easy to photograph. By far, one of my favorite sessions to date!

Kylan + Bella

What little girl wouldn't love a photoshoot with her BFF! These girls were full of energy and I loved watching them interact with each other. This is what true friendship looks like - smiling, laughing and a lot of dancing!
